A Londoners’ guide to enjoying the Olympics in the sun

Make the most of summer drinks and summer sports

This summer is set to be a busy one, as millions of visitors descend upon the UK for the Olympics. With fears of public transport failing due to the vast number of visitors, there are reasons for dread, but there a number of ways to make the most of this wonderful British summer.

Hop on a bike

As you will have no doubt heard, using public transport is going to be difficult. Therefore it’s imperative you make the most of the summer by hopping on your bike to get around. If you don’t own one, why not try renting a Boris bike for a few hours? If you’re stuck for something to do, ride with your friends to your local park to take in some rays. Don’t forget to come prepared with a picnic hamper including British classics such as scotch eggs, coronation chicken salad and some rhubarb crumble. If you’re feeling particularly festive why not bring down some great English sparkling wine to take the festivities to the next level.

Go drinking

With hundreds of wonderful venues all around London opening their doors to the Olympic visitors, expect lots of free events and parties all over the city. Make the most of London’s fantastic pub gardens, where you and friends can spend your days knocking back summer drinks like Pimm’s whilst cheering on Team GB. With a number of free events running, you should have a look on the internet to find events happening in your area.

Make the most of your back garden

With (hopefully) a couple of months of sunshine to enjoy, make the most of your time by getting to know your back garden a bit more. For those with green fingers, take the time to plant fruit and vegetables, from salads and tomatoes to rhubarb and strawberries. If spending time alone in the garden isn’t your thing, why not invite your friends and family round for a summer BBQ? It’s a great way to bring people together as well as enjoy the Olympics.

Go and watch the Olympics

Tickets are still available for many events, so it’s not too late to have a piece of the action. Have a look online to see what tickets are still available and get geared up for a wonderful month of summer sports . If you are unable to find tickets to the events you would like, you can always go and visit the Olympic park to soak in the sun and atmosphere, as well as watch the events on one of the big screens.
