On Saturday 25 March, Ealing Liberal Synagogue hosted an event to mark the 80th year since its foundation.

A special service led by Rabbi Dr. Miri Lawrence and Rabbi Charley Baginsky was held, with contributions from former leader, Rabbi Indigo Raphael and Student Rabbi Rafe Thurstance, who spoke on behalf of former Rabbi Janet Burden.

Amongst the many special guests, were the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Mohinder Midha, James Murray MP, Dr Rupa Huq MP as well as the Leader of Ealing Council, Peter Mason and other local councillors.

The synagogue’s president, William Glassman reflected on the community’s many achievements over the years and joined others in looking forward to the next 80 years.

Sandra Jones, a member of the Council of Ealing Liberal Synagogue, said, “The wonderful rich and varied service, involving many from the community was followed by a kiddush, champagne reception and a splendid lunch made possible by the generous donations from the synagogue's members and friends.”

Liberal Judaism seeks to preserve the cultural and religious values of religion, while giving them contemporary force and meaning to the Jewish tradition.

The Ealing Liberal Synagogue is an accepting liberal community which actively welcomes people from all types of Jewish backgrounds, or those drawn to Judaism, who want to come together to participate in a Jewish way of life.

It welcomes interfaith partnerships and families as well as parents who want to help their children explore their Jewish heritage as part of their cultural identity.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
