Students to learn the secrets of Nordic cooking
Students from the University's London School of Hospitality and Tourism will be working with one of Sweden's most revered chefs to bring the taste of Sweden to some of the UK's most influential food bloggers.
Andreas Hedlund is a previous winner of the Chef of the Year, Sweden's most prominent and renowned competition for professional chefs. He will be working with the students from the London School of Hospitality and Tourism to show them the secrets of Nordic cooking and to produce dishes that celebrate the best of Swedish cooking.
The event, taking place on Thursday 3 May 2012, will see students serving dinner to a range of food bloggers in their own homes. The preparation will take place at the Residence of the Ambassador of Sweden in Central London together with their Executive Chef.
On Friday 4 May the University's fine-dining restaurant Pillars will open its doors to the public for a special serving of a delicious four course Swedish lunch. This will be specially prepared by Andreas and the students to showcase true Swedish ingredients and cuisine and to provide a truly unforgettable dining experience.
Following the event students will have the opportunity to add to their culinary repertoire by applying for an internship in Sweden.
Sales of Swedish food in the UK have risen by almost 30% in the past years recently eclipsing the more traditional food nations of southern Europe; Nordic food is now amongst the most sought after in the world.
Commenting on the upcoming events, Mia Touzin, Field leader for Hospitality and Event Management at the University's London School of Hospitality and Tourism said:
'It's great to introduce our students to another new influence. Many of them choose the hotel and restaurant industry in order to get to know the world better. It's important for us to give them a taste of what is done internationally, it makes them more prepared for work in the industry, whether in multi-cultural London or working abroad.'
