Local Girl Meets Prime Minister

Army cadet Caroline gets to visit Ten Downing Street

Thirteen-year old Army Cadet Caroline Handford Chmaj from Ealing was beaming with excitement as she walked into Downing Street to keep her appointment with Prime Minister David Cameron MP.

Caroline is a cadet at the 206 Chiswick Detachment (Royal Signals) in Stamford Brook and was accompanied by Lieutenant Rachel Fullard, volunteer leader in charge of that unit (in photo below).

They joined young people from other youth organisations at a round table discussion hosted by Radio 1 Xtra's MistaJam.

It was an opportunity for them to talk about what inspires them to get involved in voluntary work and social action, what issues they have encountered and what their hopes and aspirations are.

Caroline, a pupil at Latymer School, joined the ACF (Army Cadet Force) in December last year.

She described the day as a unique experience and it was memorable meeting the Prime Minister.
