Ian Hislop To Feature in Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery's Lockdown Events

Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery has temporarily closed again in line with government restrictions but they hope to reopen on Thursday 3 December.

In the meantime, they are running a series of online events for the next few weeks.

The programme starts on Tuesday 24 November with an online talk entitled Locked Down with Ian Hislop. You will be able to join broadcaster Lorraine Heggessey, in conversation with Ian Hislop, arguably Britain’s most Hogarthian satirist. From A Rake’s Progress to London today, you are told to expect scathing wit, caustic comments and withering observations. Ian Hislop is a writer, journalist and broadcaster. He has been editor of Private Eye since 1986. He is probably best known for his role as a regular team captain on the BBC show Have I Got News for You. He has appeared on BBC Question Time, written and presented many documentaries for television and radio. Ian has also written award-winning stage plays and in 2018, curated an exhibition at the British Museum, I Object: Ian Hislop’s Search for Dissent.

The talk takes place at 6.30pm and costs £12 or £7 for members.

On Wednesday 2 December at 7.30pm there is a live Christmas Wreath-Making online masterclass with Ealing florist Louise Coultas Pitman who will lead the from the Upper Drawing Room in the Manor. A wreath-making starter kit, including foliage, can be ordered in advance for collection at Pitzhanger on the day for £30. A home delivery option within the borough of Ealing is available if you are vulnerable or shielding. To view the class the cost is £10 or £7 for for members.

On Tuesday 15 December at 8pm Inua Ellam will be live-streaming A Celebration of Poetry and Hip Hop. Inua Ellams is an internationally acclaimed poet, playwright and performer. His plays include Barber Shop Chronicles (National Theatre, Roundhouse and BAM Brooklyn) and Three Sisters (National Theatre). Ellams will adapt his Rhythm And Poetry (R.A.P.) Party event series for Hogarth’s Rake – hip-hop inspired poems and favourite hip-hop songs. This evening event of poetry and music has been rescheduled as this livestream event from Pitzhanger. Tickets are £10 or £5 for concessions.

Also a quick reminder that that Pitzhanger Pantry, the café kiosk in Walpole, remains open daily 9am-5pm, serving hot drinks, warming soups and toasties.
