The Hunt For Hanwell's Royalty is On

Could you be the Carnival Queen, Princess.. or a first for this year - Prince?

The countdown is on to this year's Hanwell Carnival.

The family festival, which is believed to be the oldest in London, will be held on Saturday 15th June in Elthorne Park, Boston Road.

All the firm favourites are back such as the fancy-dress procession, dog show and petting farm. Local talent will be keeping the crowds entertained, while charities and craftspeople showcase their work.

Carnival organisers are hoping to recruit an army of volunteers and they are holding a social evening on Friday 22 March to drum up support.

They are also keen to hear from people who want to set up a stall, parade in the procession or show off their skills on the music or community stages.
The invite is also extended to anyone who was involved last year – from the sponsors and charities to the musicians and volunteers.

Carnival committee member Julie O’Donnell said: “The carnival is a free community event, run by the community for the community. We rely entirely on volunteers and we need a range of people to help in the planning or on the day. Whatever skills you have, we can make use of them.”
The social will take place at Inn on the Green, Lower Boston Road, at 8pm, where there will be plenty of chat and a bit of live music.

If unable to make the social, people can register their interest on the Hanwell Carnival website – www.hanwellcarnival.co.uk - under the get involved section.

Hunt for Hanwell Royalty

The carnival is looking for the Queen and Princess of 2013, and for the first time ever, it is also seeking a prince.

Candidates for the Queen need to be at least 18 years old, while the princess and prince must be eight years or over. The only other criteria are that applicants must be proud of where they live and excited about becoming a community champion.

The carnival royalty will have pride of place at the head of the procession through Hanwell. Other perks of the day include bespoke outfits, a bit of pampering and a ride in a vintage car.

Candidates can apply via the Hanwell Carnival website – www.hanwellcarnival.co.uk - or through its Facebook page. The deadline for applications is Friday 8 March. Judging will take place on Tuesday 12 March.
