Having taken the decision not to hold the Hanwell Carnival this year, the organisers have committed themselves to a return of the event in 2026.

Challenges such as inflation, tougher regulation and a workload too great for the existing organising team to handle has resulted in them electing to regroup and expand their resources both in terms of personnel and finance.

The intention is that the next festival will be bigger and better and so they are actively seeking new committee members and support from the community to help with future events. If you're interested in getting involved, you can reach out through the event’s official website.

To help raise the necessary funds, they are hosting a Family Fun Day Carnival Fundraiser in June with tickets going on sale soon, and looking for local businesses for support.

If you can donate a prize from your business for the raffle, whether it’s a gift card, product or experience it would be very welcome.

They have also set up a Just Giving page where you can directly donate funds. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/helen-mcmanus-770

They would also like to hear from anyone who would like to book a stall on the day of the fundraiser or offer services such as facepainting.

Despite the main event's hiatus, the traditional "Beating the Bounds" walk is still scheduled for Monday, 5 May. This approximately eight-mile circular walk around the old parish boundary of Hanwell starts and finishes at the Viaduct pub on Uxbridge Road, beginning at 12 noon.

The Hanwell Carnival, established in 1898, is one of the UK's longest-running community events. 2025 is not the first time it hasn’t taken place. After its inception, the event continued annually until 1945, with a hiatus between 1946 and 1960. The carnival was revived in 1961 by Billy Smart, a circus ringmaster with strong ties to Hanwell.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we’d be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least two articles a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you’d like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT.
