Little Ealing and Mount Carmel Fun Run

A fabulous success!

The peace and quiet of Lamas Park was shattered on Sunday as the Little Ealing and Mount Carmel Fun Run took off.

As sunbathers soaked up the rays the local Northfields children and then adults raced around the perimeter providing a distraction from the normal Sunday activities enjoyed in the park.

They were witnessing the first joint event of two of our prominent primary schools in Ealing, Little Ealing and Mount Carmel, encouraging parents, pupils and the wider Northfields Community to take part.

The format allowed for two races, a timed half hour run for the children, followed by a 5k race for the adults. The children recorded laps of the lower part of the park with some participants clocking up over 14 circuits.

All the participants were helped on their way by Northfields very own ‘Mr Motivator’, trainer Rob Greene who set the scene for the whole event. Well over 100 children took part and considering what a scorcher it was the children ran valiantly well around the course and proudly showed off their certificates at the end of the race.

Next up, the adult’s 5k where over 70 runners took part supported by local crowds cheering then on. An exciting run for the finish as the winner Damien Coffey who came in at 18 minutes! Sophie Slama and Louise Burgess were the first women home, in a ‘hand in hand’ finish reminiscent of the London Marathon.

Winners’ prizes were provided by Top Notch gym in Brentford.

The Fun Run was organised to raise funds for each school as well as chosen charities including Cancer Research UK and NSPCC.

Natasha Wild, Event Organiser from Little Ealing’s PTFA said:

“We’ve held the Kids Rumble for many years and last year added the Adults 5k but felt that this great event could be a perfect opportunity to join with our neighbouring school Mount Carmel and have it reach further into the Community. Next year we want to make the Fun Run even bigger and encourage even more local people to take part. There’s nothing organised like this locally so we want this to be a Ealing wide event and not just for schools”.

The run was sponsored by Tennis and Football Centre Will to Win, based in Lamas Park. Steve Riley, Director from Will to Win said:

“It was great to be part of such a fantastic school and community event promoting fitness and at the same time fundraising for local schools and charities”.

Alison O'Sullivan, Chair of Mount Carmel Primary School's MCCA added :

"It was delightful to see such excited and motivated children. Two girls, both called Emily, ran round hand in hand; a group of 6 year old boys held their own most laps competition; and along with the Mum's, Dad's, Grandma's & Granddad's and other family members who joined in, it was truly a community event. Thank you to everyone who took part or just came along to support the event. We’d also like to say a big thank you to Andrew West for organising the event for Mount Carmel, St John’s Ambulance, Will to Win and Top Notch Health Centre for supporting the run. We look forward to seeing you all again next year”.
