Eagles Soar Over Home Ground

Hundreds of local runners took part in Ealing's Half Marathon

Ealing Eagles Running Club, one of the fastest growing running clubs in the UK, was out in force at the Ealing Half Marathon on Sunday 27th September, with over 400 club members either running or volunteering in a race of over 4,500 participants.

Allie Collins, Chair of the running club said “We were delighted to see so many of our members taking part, from fast runners to some who had completed our beginners’ course just a few months ago. Many of our runners achieved Personal Best times whilst others completed their first half marathon, and the club is extremely proud of them and of everyone who gave their time to support the event.”

Rachid Afouzar was the club’s top performer, clocking a time of 1:18:12 to finish in 31st position overall in the men’s race. There were also strong performances from Jose Manuel Pabon, David Longley and Dave Chryssides who all finished in the top 50 runners.

Taking the top honour for the women was Nichola Anderson, who clocked a time of 1:33:07 with the second placed lady, Sarah Bailey, finishing close behind with a Personal Best time of 1:35:09.

Those who were not taking part in the running threw themselves into various volunteering roles. These included a large team working behind the scenes with the organisers putting up signage and leafleting neighbourhoods in Ealing, Hanwell and Pitshanger prior to the event, manning water stations and marshalling the route during the race and assisting with the tidy-up operation afterwards.

Kelvin Walker, Race Director said “It was great yet again to see so many Eagles volunteering and running at EHM. Without the Ealing Eagles there would be no race and they play a huge part in making it the fun, inclusive, community event that it has become. Thank you Eagles!”

The Ealing Half Marathon, twice voted the UK’s best half marathon at the Running Awards, sold out for the first time this year and entries are now open for the event in 2016.
