Celebrate Easter at St Barnabas

The Great Vigil and First Mass of Easter, Saturday 4th April

This year St Barnabas Church in Pitshanger Lane is again recapturing the ancient practises of the early Christians at Easter.

We gather in complete darkness to kindle the new fire. Then an ancient Easter hymn is chanted as the church is steadily filled by a wave of golden candlelight. Powerful readings from scripture and majestic sacred music from Handel’s “Messiah” and Bach’s “St John’s Passion” guide our journey from darkness to light.

At the high point of worship, the church is flooded with light, flowers and the sound of handheld bells as we proclaim that “Christ is Risen. He is risen indeed!”
All are very welcome, so do join us for one of the most moving acts of worship in the Christian calendar.
