This year Ealing Choral Society (ECS) had hoped to perform live for its annual Charity Christmas Carol concert in support of Meadow House Hospice.

Instead, the Society will broadcast a newly created Christmas concert performance on its YouTube channel on Saturday, 12 December at 7pm. The concert, which has been designed especially for an at-home audience, is conducted by Jonathan Williams and features the singers ECS, organist Alexander Pott, and readings by ECS Associate John Sergeant and others.

Comprised of favourite Christmas carols for choir and audience interspersed with festive readings, the online concert aims to reproduce as authentically as possible ECS’s annual charity carol concert, normally a sell-out tradition for the people of Ealing.

The highlight of the programme is a performance of “The Butterfly Carol,” a new carol commissioned by Members and Associates of ECS and written especially for Meadow House Hospice by Jonathan Williams with lyrics by Anna Wordsmith.

Sue Clark, ECS Chairman said, “With its soaring melodies and poignant text of love and loss, the moving carol is sure to strike an emotional chord with many listeners during what will be an exceptional Christmas celebration at the end of an unforgettable year.

“We are delighted that this online format will enable music lovers to share in our Christmas tradition in a safe way, while allowing ‘The Butterfly Carol’ to have a new and widespread audience,” writes.

ECS has had a long association with Meadow House Hospice, which serves the population of the London boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow, caring for people with a life-limiting or terminal condition, their families and carers. Meadow House Hospice aims to show compassion, care, respect, and dignity at all times.

The concert is free, and will be available to view from Saturday, 12 December 7pm until Boxing Day. Donations to Meadow House Hospice may be made by clicking here.

ECS is an amateur choir, performing with world-class orchestras and soloists in Ealing and abroad. More information about the choir may be found on its website.
