No 5 Club at The Drayton Returns

Comedy and more at Ealing's Drayton Court Hotel

The revamped No5 club returns to the Drayton Court on tonight (February 10) with an off-the-wall extravaganza of comedy, music and cabaret hosted by Sh!t Theatre, one of the most exciting up-and-coming acts on the circuit.

They are Louise Mothersole and Rebecca Biscuit (a former Ealing resident,) a young, cutting edge musical duo who aim to explore “the political, the personal and the the downright peverted.” They have been described as the new French and Saunders.

The line-up also includes Wilfredo, who has become a cult figure on the British musical festival scene, plus an array of weird and wonderful special guests.

Sh!t Theatre have been creating a stir at home and abroad over the last two years with their own special brand of political satire, comedy and music. Their many credits include New York City’s HOT! Fest, the Edinburgh Fringe, Shambala Festival, and Duckie at the RVT. They are being filmd by a TV camera crew for an upcoming documentary about their work.

Promoter Phil Zimmerman says: “It is great to have them opening the new night which is going to be much more about bringing on exciting new acts who have something to say about the times we are living in. And there’s certainly a lot to take the mickey out of. We are living in an age of mass hypnosis and lies where the rich are getting richer and the poor and disadvantaged are being trodden on and disregarded. It’s a disgrace.

“There is a lot to be said and, a lot to be written and sung about, and I’m not interested in being a part of the corporate comedy scene which is bland and superficial, so this is going to be the start of a comedy, music and cabaret revolution at the Drayton.. it’s for people with a pulse who care and are wide awake or want to be. We are going to create a really off-the-wall underground vibe and and there will be some surprises, in the next few months.. we will also still be having some famous names popping down, but they will be a part of what the night is about rather it being all about them, as I want the club itself and what it stands for to become the star attraction.

“And most of all it’s going to be really joyful, and about expressing the greatness of life itself, even if the government and mass media robots want to keep us all down in a mass coma so they can continue to manipulate us like we’re a bunch of sheep. So come along and scream and shout and sing and dance and be merry - this has always been the role of comedy and variety in times of austerity and we are reconnecting with that great tradition.”
