Simon Munnery (aka Alan Parker: Urban Warrior) and Nick Wilty headline this Friday
There is a great line-up Downstairs At The Drayton this week,(Friday November 21st), with two top headliners in Simon Munnery and Nick Wilty plus special guests acts. Phil Zimmerman is MC.
Munnery, also known by his stagenames of Alan Parker: Urban Warrior and The League Against Tedium, is an English comedy writer and legeandary standup comedian. He has pierced the mainstream both with his own show on BBC Radio 1 and his BBC2 television series, Attention Scum!
His experimental style is reflected in his sartorial appearance: his tragically unfashionable glasses, homemade clothes, makeshift props, and dramatic facial hair. As 'The League' he often dons a hat crafted from a kettle and one of his standup shows is performed entirely with a metal bucket over his head.
Munnery plays harmonica and his dialogue is full of quotable remarks, inviting comparison with Oscar Wilde, ("If you've only ever read one book in your life... I strongly recommend that you keep your mouth shut").
Nick Wilty known as the "Globetrotting Comedian" for good reason. He has performed on every continent except Antarctica (although he did a show in Tierra Del Fuego!), and has done shows in all major Festivals, including Edinburgh (6 times), Glastonbury (5 times), Auckland (twice), Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide, Montreal (Just For Laughs), Vancouver, Edmonton, San Francisco, New York, Amsterdam, Cape Town & Hong Kong.
He has won several awards, including the Polo Mint Comedy Award, voted by fellow comedians and club owners in England, and Best International Act in San Francisco.
