December films at the Classic Cinema Club
Great British comedy, suspense and satire will hit the screens of the Classic Cinema Club in December.
Once again featuring an "Ealing connected" film, the Club is showing the much-loved Ealing comedy "The Ladykillers"(1955) on Friday 2 December at OPEN Ealing, 113 Uxbridge Rd W5.
This wonderful medley of unlikely characters never fails to set the audience chuckling. Peter Sellers, Alec Guiness and Katie Johnson head the brilliant cast.
The final two films of this year will then be shown at Ealing Town Hall: Carol Reed's masterful and very popular "The Third Man" (1949) - with the slightly elusive Orson Welles - on Friday 9 Dec; and"IF..." a great satire by Lindsay Anderson (1968), starring the talented Malcolm MacDowell, and dealing with issues of auhtoritarianism, rebellion, leadeship, oppression to a backdrop of the English public school.
The answer the the question "What is a classic fillm?" is that it is a fine work of art that remains interesting down the years by its ability to portray the eternal questions of life around us.
Each film screening is followed by a discussion led by film specialists.
The programme for January will be a season of Kurusawa films (Japan).
Films start at 7.30pm. The £5 membership is optional until the end of the year when the club will become a members' club. The 2012 subscription will be £10.
