Romeo and Juliet – by Charles Gounod

West London Opera is to perform Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet this month.

Romeo and Juliet – the epitome of young lovers. Passion, love, intrigue, guilt, loyalty and death are the elements that make this such an emotional opera.

Gounod’s score makes the skirmishes of the powerful Montagues and Capulets contrast sharply with the magnificent duets of the young lovers.

The story of young lovers from opposing powerful families is universal, it spans Ovid’s Pyramis and Thisbe right up to the hit film High School Musical.
