Football challenges form part of the six week programme
July 16, 2026
Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre has launched Sportropolis — a six-week programme of free sport, play and family activities designed to bring beach vibes and big-energy games to the town centre.
Running from Thursday 16 July to Friday 4 September, Sportropolis transforms the square in the centre of the complex into a pop-up playground where children can get active, try new sports and enjoy a day out without spending a penny. The programme begins with the opening of Sportropolis Beach, a giant sandpit complete with sandcastle-building equipment and a deckchair photo spot, offering little ones a chance to dig, build and play throughout the summer.
The wider programme launches on Saturday 25 July, bringing football challenges, martial arts tasters, tennis-inspired games and freestyle demonstrations to the centre. Every Saturday, families can drop into the free Saturday Sports Club between 11am and 4pm, with activities designed for a range of ages and abilities.
One of the headline attractions is a series of Friday rugby sessions led by professional players from Ealing Trailfinders’ men’s and women’s teams. Running from 31 July to 21 August, the sessions give children the chance to train with the pros, build confidence and learn new skills. Families will also be able to meet Bella the Bear, the club’s mascot, and enjoy photo opportunities throughout the afternoon.
Andrew Rollings, centre director at Ealing Broadway, said the programme was created with affordability and community in mind. “Families are always looking for new and affordable ways to keep children entertained during the school holidays, and Sportropolis has been designed to offer just that,” he said. “With a free programme of sport, play and family activities, we’re creating a welcoming space where children can get active, try something new and enjoy time with friends and family. It’s a brilliant opportunity for the community to come together and make the most of summer at Ealing Broadway.”
Sportropolis Beach (16 July – 4 September) A free summer play space featuring a giant sandpit, sandcastle-building tools and a branded deckchair for family photos.
Jump Serve and Sub Soccer Tables (25 July – 29 August) Two football-themed challenges: Jump Serve, where players compete to head the highest ball, and Sub Soccer, a fast-paced seated football game.
Saturday Sports Club (25 July – 29 August) Weekly drop-in sessions offering football freestyle, martial arts tasters, tennis-inspired games, target sports, team games and rhythm-and-movement activities.
Family rugby fun with Ealing Trailfinders (31 July – 21 August) Free Friday training sessions led by professional players, running from 12pm to 3pm. Suitable for all ages and abilities.
