Calling All Ealing Pushy Mothers to Gunnersbury Park

Pram owners that is, not obsessive social climbers

Why not leave the pushing to get these babies into the 'right' school till when they can walk, and while they're pram-bound, grab the chance to push yourself.

The only drive you need to join Pushy Mothers, is the kind that allows you to steer a buggy. In fact, even that's arguable. I still haven't mastered it..

Local personal trainer Sheri Osborn is launching Pushy Mothers Buggy Workout classes on Tuesday mornings at Gunnersbury Park - meeting at the cafe at 9.30.

The Pushy Mothers buggy workout is fast-becoming the must-have exercise system for new mums wanting to get back into shape. The Guardian said: “With fresh air and the chance to chat, this is a far cry from those desultory hospital-based mother and baby classes.”

Pushy Mothers was founded by Britain’s leading pregnancy and postnatal exercise expert Judy DiFiore – author of three books and former senior tutor at YMCAFit .

Pushy Mothers is the ONLY postnatal exercise system with instructor training accredited by The Royal College of Midwives. All instructors are members of The Guild of Pregnancy and Postnatal Exercise Instructors.

Sheri is one of 40 Pushy Instructors in the national team and classes are springing up all over the UK. She knows first hand that during the winter months it can be hard to get out and motivated but most of her mums would tell you that it is better out than in whatever the weather.

“Having a winter baby can soon bring on the cabin fever and so joining Pushy Mothers gives me a reason to get out of the house, clears my head whilst I’m getting fit at the same time,” said Pushy Mother Debre. “There are loads of activities out there for the babies but this is fantastic because it is for the MUM and there is no childcare needed - the baby comes along too.”

“Pushy Mothers is an all-weather workout,” Pushy Instructor Sheri explains. “ You’ve seen David Beckham using cones to train sports specifically, well our Buggy Drills use the prams in a similar way to keep you warm and to increase your heart rate at the same time, it’s PRAM specific!”

In fact exercising outdoors in the winter has even more benefits for new mums than warm-weather workouts.

Top 5 reasons to workout with Pushy Mothers in winter

1. The Shiver Factor: In winter you burn twice as many calories as your body is not only exercising but also having to keep warm.

2. Bone Density- In the first 12 weeks of breastfeeding you lose approx five per cent of your bone density. Oestrogen levels are low so calcium absorption is reduced. Exposure to vitamin D found in natural daylight may help to counteract the effects. Pushing your buggy on uneven surfaces and different terrains rather than exercising on a smooth flat surface increases the stress on the bone which helps to improve bone density.

3. SAD: Seasonal Affective Disorder affects an estimated 100,000 people in the UK especially during the winter months. Exposure to daylight will help boost your natural biorhythms and sense of well- being.

4.You can talk but you must walk! Pushy Mothers classes are a great way to meet other mums and get fit at the same time.

5. Baby benefits too: Fresh air can offset the effects of central heating which dries out babies’ skin. Exposure to natural daylight boosts Vitamin D, which is recommended for babies with mild jaundice.
