Remove the decorations and turn it into compost
The council is urging everyone to recycle Christmas trees so they can be turned into compost instead of going to landfill.
Residents can leave their trees – with all decorations removed - out for collection with their normal weekly garden waste recycling collection.
If the tree is larger than 6ft in height or the trunk is more than 20cm in diameter, it needs to be cut in two for collection. They can be left out during January on the usual refuse and recycling collection day (at the front of the property, but not on the pavement where they can cause obstruction).
Residents can also take real Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes to a number of venues across the borough during the month of January, including many parks, open spaces and car parks – listed below. Trees collected from parks will be turned into compost.

The three Re-use and Recycling centres accept all garden waste, including Christmas trees, for recycling. These centres are located at Stirling Road, Acton; Gordon Road, Southall; and Greenford Road, Greenford. Please note that the weighbridge at the Greenford centre closes at 3.30pm.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for Transport and Environment, said: “We want to make recycling as easy as possible which is why we will continue to offer free Christmas tree collection from doorsteps. Whether you leave it out for collection, take it to a Reuse and Recycling Centre or take it to a local park, you can ensure that your Christmas tree is recycled once the festive season is over."
