Council Worker Injured After Car Mounts Pavement in W5

Accident on Windmill Road this morning

A popular local street cleaner has been injured after a car driver lost control and mounted the pavement on Windmill Road, in W5, at rush hour this morning.

The accident happened close to Gunnersbury School around 9am.

The car was driving on the southside of Windmill Rd - and just passing through the pedestrian crossing near the school - when it veered across the road crashing into a fence, bringing a tree down.

The 50 year old woman - is not being named but is well known in the area. She was knocked over whilst doing her work and suffered injuries including a broken leg.

She has been taken to Ealing Hospital for treatment.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for Transport and Environment said:

"I was shocked to hear the news that such a valued and popular member of the team had been injured in this incident.

''Our sympathy and wishes for a speedy recovery go to her and her family.

“We’ve already had a lot of get well soon messages for her from the public and I will personally be in touch with the family to pass these on.”
