Couple share service from Dubai over skype
A couple used the latest technology to connect with friends in Ealing and share their wedding service after becoming stranded because of the Icelandic volcano.
Sean Murtagh, 24, and his new wife Natalie, a 30-year-old Australian, married in Brisbane three weeks ago but had planned to hold a humanist ceremony for family and friends here in Ealing at the weekend.
The newlyweds got stuck in Dubai after changing planes on Thursday.
It seemed like the ceremony would have to be called off - until the couple decided to go ahead with the ceremony in the lobby of the Dubai hotel using Skype to connect with their guests at Trailfinders Sports Club in W13.
Hotel staff volunteered to became the couple’s impromptu wedding planners.
Mr Murtagh. said: ''They have decorated the lobby of the hotel. They made us a three tier wedding cake, set up a laptop with Skype and a projector, It’s spellbinding the amount they have done for us. It’s been an incredible day. We were never going to forget it anyway but we certainly won’t forget it now.'
Humanist celebrant Caroline Black, who conducted the ceremony from Trailfinders - where Sean played rugby - said:
''I’ve done lots of humanist weddings but not one like this at all. It was absolutely brilliant. It was just like any other wedding except the bride and groom weren’t there.''
