50 More Planes A Day Over Ealing With Third Runway

Campaign group 'plant' models at Haven Green to show impact on area

Ealing Aircraft Noise Action Group

Ealing Aircraft Noise Action Group planted 50 model planes on Haven Green today to illustrate how the area would be affected by another runway.

It's the first anniversary of the government’s adoption in principle of the Airport commission’s recommendation to build the third runway at Heathrow.

The 50 model planes stand for Ealing’s share of the 700 extra planes using Heathrow each day if the airport had three runways. When the wind is in the east 260 planes a day take off over Ealing now: a third runway would add 130 more. Many of these would have to take off over Greenford and Perivale, which have not suffered aircraft overhead up to now.

Other environmental and residents' groups, from the No 3rd Runway Coalition, planted model planes in parks and greens across the city, in places under Heathrow flight paths, including in Osterley, Ravenscourt Park, Teddington, Harmondsworth, Sipson, Kennington, and Lightwater and Englefield Green  in Surrey to raise awareness of the increased noise and pollution a third runway would cause.
