Beacon Status For Lammas Park Tennis Club

New investment encouraging new players

Will to Win Tennis Centre in Lammas Park in Ealing has been awarded ‘Beacon’ status in recognition of its high quality, fun, affordable, community tennis programme.

The announcement was made as the park unveiled three new floodlit courts on the site, thanks to a £50,000 investment from the Tennis Foundation designed to extend the availability of tennis opportunities for the local community. Will to Win Ealing was selected by the Tennis Foundation for the accolade along with 31 other Beacon sites across the country. It is one of the first community sites to achieve the status, which recognises the best community-focussed facilities, as part of AEGON Parks Tennis.

Sue Mappin, Executive Director of the Tennis Foundation, said:

“We were delighted to invest £50,000 partnership funding towards Will to Win’s new floodlit facilities in Lammas Park as well as to recognise the excellent work they are already doing by awarding them ‘Beacon’ status. To grow participation we need more quality public tennis facilities like this, offering the local community a fun affordable tennis experience year round. The Tennis Foundation is also working with other coaches in the Borough who wish to develop community tennis, as part of its ongoing drive to enhance the opportunities in this area of West London."

“Through AEGON Parks Tennis we are committed to improving access to tennis around the country – whether playing for fun or competing. Tennis is a fantastic lifelong sport and I strongly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to take part. Working with local tennis providers, this will make a real contribution to building healthier and safer communities, as well as ensuring that anyone wanting to pick up a racket can do so in a quality local environment."

To become a ‘Beacon’ site, all facilities must offer access to free tennis; plus quality, affordable coaching and regular competitions for all ages and abilities.

Steve Riley, Director of Will to Win Tennis, one of the leading private providers of public tennis in the UK, said:

"The Tennis Foundation support is vital to the success of our programme for the development of community tennis– not only will more people be able to play tennis year round but our coaching team and pavilion staff will have year round work promoting public tennis – the Beacon status confirms our position as an organisation that delivers fun affordable year round tennis getting more players playing tennis better''.
