Food inspectors gave Arya Samaj a zero rating

A West Ealing Temple has been given the lowest food hygiene rating of zero after evidence of a mouse infestation.

A report, about Arya Samaj Temple on Argyle Road was released by the Food Standards Authority (FSA) (under the Freedom of Information Act) and lists the areas where rodent activity was found.

It reads: “A large amount of droppings are on the floor behind the standing fridge within the kitchen” as well as “on the shelving under the equipment sink next to cooking equipment”.

Other areas where droppings were found included in an equipment room next to pots, and within a dried food store and on shelving within non-used food trays.

As well as requiring a deep clean, the inspector requested notification that a  pest controller had been brought in. The report states the restaurant should: “Dispose of equipment which had been contaminated.”

The kitchen was given credit for using a Safer Food Better Business pack, but this was not fully filled out.The owners were also told that opening and closing checks were required to ensure standards were maintained.

A sticker denoting the zero rating was sent to the restaurant on January 17. In Scotland and Wales it is required by law to display the rating, but in the UK it is not.

The FSA said it had not carried out a follow-up visit.

An officer from the FSA said: “There are no current plans to change the food hygiene rating rior to the next scheduled inspection.”

Arya Samaj Temple has been contacted for comment.
