Ealing sandwich shop fined for serving after hours
Fast-food operator Subway has been fined £600 for selling food out of hours following an Ealing Council investigation.
Mr Vishal Kakar, director of London Fast Food Developments Ltd appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 27 January. The company pleaded guilty to two offences of selling hot food and drinks after the business’ permitted hours at his Subway franchise at 38, High Street, Ealing. The court fined Mr Kakar £600 and ordered him to pay £500 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Ealing Council’s regulatory services officers investigated the business after receiving a complaint from a local resident about noise levels and the shop operating outside of its permitted hours.
Councillor Ranjit Dheer, cabinet member for community services and safety, said: “We cannot allow individual businesses to make up their own opening and closing times. Every late night fast-food trader is given specific closing times to stick to by the council, which include a time for last orders. By staying open beyond that time this business has contributed to anti-social behaviour in the area by providing food and drink to rowdy people after a night out who would otherwise have left the area.”
