Ealing Studios - A Short History

Film bloggers assess the importance of our local film studios

Despite the fact that we currently have no cinema Ealing has always been synonymous with films.

Ealing Studios has produced a huge range of classic films which continue to be shown.

Whiskey Galore - the story of Scottish Islanders who can't believe their luck when a ship carrying 50,000 cases of whisky runs aground - is due to be released on Blu Ray on 8th August.

The Film Pilgrim is a blog for movie enthusiasts. It was established in August 2010 'aiming to entertain and inform the film reader about cinemas newest releases and oldest classics, as well as discuss all the usual news and gossip'.

Meanwhile in celebration of the great Ealing Comedies (and the re-release of 'The Lavender Hill Mob') Tally Ho! Cycle Tours along with British cinema expert Richard Dacre have designed three separate Central London bicycle tours around the most iconic filming locations from The Lavender Hill Mob, Hue & Cry and Passport to Pimlico.

Atop a classic 1920's style British made bicycle, cyclists will be able to enjoy a turn around some of London’s most recognisable landmarks, as well as some of it’s hidden wonders, whilst being treated to commentary from an experienced Tally Ho tour leader and British Cinema expert Richard Dacre.

Each tour will concentrate on famous locations from the three films.

One feature tour a day will end in time for a screening of said Ealing classic at Vintage at Southbank Centre, Wayne Hemingway’s award-winning Festival celebrating 7 decades of British cool.
