Foot and Cycle Bridge Proposals For Southall

Public consultation taking place on 21st February

Plans are underway to install a new foot and cycle bridge on Merrick Road in Southall,

The proposed bridge will link Merrick Road to Park Avenue, and allow residents an alternate route across the railway.

It replaces the original iconic bridge which was demolished in 2017 and moved to Didcot Railway Centre.

The council is seeking the views of residents, local businesses and stakeholders as part of the planning application process for the proposed bridge, adjacent to Southall train station.

A public consultation will be taking place on Wednesday 21 February from 2pm until 7.30pm at the Dominion Centre, 112 The Green, Southall, UB2 4BQ.

The event provides an informal opportunity to view and discuss the plans and give feedback to the council’s team, which will be present to answer questions.

Plans include the installation of cycle rails on the steps to make it easier to wheel bikes up and down the stairs. New lighting and CCTV coverage will also make the route safer for people using the bridge.

Cllr Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure said: “We want to hear from residents about our proposals for a new bridge in Southall. The views of local people and businesses will help the council shape plans for the infrastructure around Southall train station.

“We will always look at ways to make it easier for people to walk and cycle as part of a healthy lifestyle and this proposal for a bridge at Merrick Road will allow better access across the railway and also improve the safety of the area.”

If you are unable to attend but wish to view the plans and leave a comment, they will be available to view at the Dominion Centre until Sunday 25 February 2018.
