Residents from Northfield Ward help the Samaritans

Northfield Ward Forum has helped an organisation usually known for helping others.

Ealing, Hammersmith & Hounslow Branch of Samaritans – the charity that provides confidential emotional support to anyone experiencing distress or suicidal feelings, recently benefited from two new public signposts, improving awareness of the charity’s presence in the Northfields area.

In June this year, Branch Chair Roger Mullins asked the Northfield Ward Forum if it was possible to replace the original Samaritans’ signpost on South Ealing Road, which had been missing for a long time.  As well as agreeing to this, the Forum arranged for an additional signpost to be put up on Windmill Lane.

David Millican, who represents Northfield Ward Ealing, said: "I am hugely supportive of Samaritans, who do such a great job helping so many people in despair.  I am proud that the people of Northfield Ward were keen to support the local branch.  The residents made the funds available, from the Northfield Ward Forum budget."

The timing of the new signposts couldn’t be better as the local charity celebrates its milestone 40th anniversary next year.

During the past four decades Samaritans have been a stalwart of the community, providing a lifesaving service to people in need.  Originally founded in premises off Ealing Broadway, the charity moved to its current location, 26 Junction Road Northfields, in the early 1980s to accommodate its growing activities.

Whilst the current premises are slightly off the beaten track, it is hoped that the new signage will increase visitor numbers to the branch.
