Poundworld store in West Ealing will create 50 jobs
Woolworths, Richer Sounds and Poundland are just a few that have closed their doors for good in West Ealing but this Thursday (November 5th) will see the grand opening of a new shop.
Poundworld replaces the vacant Woolworths on the Uxbridge Road creating 50 jobs in the area.
The Yorks-based business started trading in 1974 as Bargain Centre discount stores. It changed its name to Everything £1 in the mid 1990s. The stores were rebranded at the end of 2003 as Poundworld.
The company - unlike many others - has weathered the recession with 75 existing stores throughout the UK and a further seven planned to open before Christmas.
Turnover for the year ending March 2009 was more than £75m and bosses expect Poundworld to break the £100m barrier by April 2010.
Mathew Turner from Poundworld told us they had taken a long lease and were confident the store would be a great success.
He said:
'' The West Ealing site is perfect for us and offers us the opportunity to expand our brand of value stores in London and to supply the community of West Ealing and the surrounding areas with superb value products in this difficult economic climate.

''Only now have we decided to explore and move our expansion program to London and the Home Counties and we are delighted that West Ealing will be the first of many.
''The current financial downturn represents the perfect opportunity for the expansion of our business and the fact that just one store (our West Ealing store) is going to create up to 50 jobs confirms that the value sector has a very long and successful future ahead.''
