Man Jailed For Killing Former Wife in Perivale

55 year old was attacked with hammer after former husband broke in

A 52 year old man from W5 has been been found guilty of killing his former wife at her home in Perivale.

Salah Ahmed Nashia of Brunswick Road was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 19 years for the murder of 55 year-old Ghada Habib, at her home on Buckingham Avenue in September 2010.

The Old Bailey heard how police were called to the address following the discovery of Ms Habib's body by a family friend. They had forced entry into the address following concerns for her welfare.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service found Ms Habib laying on the living room floor. She had suffered numerous head injures and was pronounced dead at the scene. During a subsequent search at the address, a blood-stained hammer was recovered and it was established that there were signs of a forced entry.

A post mortem examination, which was conducted on 7 September at Uxbridge Mortuary, gave the cause of death as severe blunt force trauma to the head.

Enquiries quickly identified Ms Habib's estranged husband of two years, Iraqi born Nashia, as a suspect. Hours after her body was discovered, officers attended his address on Brunswick Avenue and arrested him on suspicion of murder.

At his address, officers seized items of bloodstained clothing and footwear and a hand written note written in Arabic which read, "No one else has to do with this only me and Ghada."

Nashia was charged with Ms Habib's murder on 9 September 2010 and remanded into custody.
