Tree ceremony marks a special week

The mother of an Ealing soldier serving in Afghanistan helped plant a tree to celebrate a special week of peace in London.

It was a particularly poignant ceremony for Camilla Reid as her son Nicholas was leaving on that very day to begin his six month campaign in the Helmand Province.

Ms Reid, accompanied by her two daughters Isobel, 10 and Joanna, 8, was invited to join the service at Christ The Saviour Church on Uxbridge Road organised by Ealing Safer Neighbourhoods Team.

She said: '' Planting a Tree of Peace on this particular day is a good omen”.

After attending the morning service, children from Christ Church School on Spring Bridge Road also took part in the ceremony.

Event coordinator  PCSO Tony Frampton said: “This tree is about the same age as the kids who attended this event. It will be great to see it grow alongside them.”

Sergeant Paul Lamb from the Safer Neighbourhood Team added: “A tree is more than just for a week of peace. It is a lasting reminder of maintaining peace and tranquility between all communities in Ealing, for decades to come.”

Officers issued special thanks to Father Andrew Davis who donated land for this event.
