Former Film Student Up For an Oscar


2013 motion picture awards held in February

A former student from the University of West London could win an Oscar.

Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly, who studied for the University’s BA (Hons) Film degree from 2005 to 2008, has been nominated in the Best Animated Short Film category. She shares the nomination with director Timothy Reckart

The short ‘Head Over Heels’ charts the unusual living arrangement of a long term married couple.

Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly who went on to do an MA in Producing at the National Film and Television School (NFTS) after her time at the Ealing College of Art Design and Media said:

'' really enjoyed studying film at university it provided me a foundation of skills and knowledge to build on. And it’s been a joy and a labour of love working on ‘Head over Heels’ with Timothy. I’ve learnt so much, and now an Oscar nomination. This is the kind of thing you only dream of. I’m still taking it all in.''

Paul Lohneis, Head of the University of West London’s Ealing School of Art, Design and Media said:
“This nomination is the culmination of years of hard work and study from Fodhla, she was an exemplary student and deserves this success.

To recieve an Academy Award nomination is one of the highest accolades in film and everyone at the University of West London is very proud. We wish her the best of luck at the Oscars.”

The 85th Academy Awards will be held on February 24 2013 and will be hosted by ‘Family Guy’ creator Seth MacFarlane.
