Introduction to Creative Writing Taster Session with Fleur Lloyd – Tuesday 24th January 7- 8.30pm

£7.50
Creative writing is fun. To do it, all you need are pen paper, imagination, memories observation, but above all, a passion for reading. If you have never written before, or if you are an enthusiastic wordsmith, you will discover on this popular course how writing is a skill and not an art. We welcome complete beginners. The course will cover all aspects of the process of writing fiction, from the finding of inspiration to the craft of making a story work on paper. We will work together on structure, pace, dialogue, scene-setting, mood and plot. We will use a variety of stimuli to explore many different styles and genres including the short story, drama and poetry; we will enjoy the chance to pastiche and parody. To help develop technique, we will read extracts from some published fiction, and discuss it. This is very often one of the most enjoyable aspects of the course.
After an extensive career in the arts, working with the National Theatre, The Royal Opera House, The Old Vic and Shakespeare’s Globe, Fleur Lloyd returned to teaching. She currently lectures in English at the University of West London, is the creative writing tutor for Hammersmith and Fulham Adult Education and has been the creative writing tutor at Marlborough College Summer School for the last nine years.
