Pub and supermarket bow to local pressure
Two businesses on Northfield Avenue have agreed to cut back their opening times following local concerns.
The Plough Inn, wanted to stay serving until 2:30 am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, but have now withdrawn their application.
Similarly Sainsbury’s - which has taken over the Spinning Wheel site - has agreed to amend the licensing hours they sought for their new site.
The revised hours will be from 7am to 11pm, with no late night hot food licence - bringing it into line with Tescos also on Northfield Avenue.
Councillor David Millican who represents the Northfield ward along with a representative of the Ealing Fields Residents Association held discussions with both businesses.
Councillor Millican says:
'' “In both cases it showed that these two businesses on Northfield Avenue do listen to representations from Councillors. The Plough extending their opening from 1:00 am until 2:30 am and the new Sainsbury’s staying open until midnight would have been just too late.
“I am sincerely grateful to the Plough for withdrawing their application. The Plough is a great pub, well managed and offering a great atmosphere. But staying open until 2:30 am would have been just too late.
“Similarly Sainsbury’s listened to the concerns of local Councillors and residents and agreed to limit the opening of their new store on Northfield Avenue to 11:00 pm
“Northfield Avenue is a thriving area and we want to encourage business. But it is also a residential area and residents have told me that they do not want to encourage any anti-social behaviour so late at night”
