Community Support Sought For Ealing School

Funding needed for redevelopment of outdoor space

North Ealing

A run down World War 2 shelter is to be redeveloped to create a new outdoor school and community area in North Ealing.

North Ealing Primary School has partnered Spacehive and the GLL Community Foundation to raise money to redesign the area into a place that children, parents, and members of the community can access apparatus for physical activity, a planting and sensory area for reflection, and an area to support the 700 children based at the school to explore an outside environment.

The school has a higer than average number of children with additional and complex needs, as noted by Ofsted, in comparison to other local maintained schools and is committed to providing them with the support they need to reach their potential.

The GLL Community Foundation and Spacehive is supporting North Ealing Primary School by hosting fundraising events, providing prizes, promoting initiatives, and guiding efforts towards achieving their £6,500 target.

Post-installation, the area will support the wider community who can access and enjoy the area through the local Gardening Club, who will maintain and develop the space.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for transport, leisure and environment said: “This is a great project and I wish pupils, staff and everyone connected with North Ealing Primary the best of luck in meeting their fundraising target.

“It is really important that young people in the borough stay active and enjoy outdoor spaces, and I have no doubt that the redevelopment of this shelter will provide the school’s 700 pupils with just such opportunities.”

“I encourage local people to support this redevelopment and contribute to what I am sure will become a really valuable asset for pupils and the local community.”

Maximilian Goodchild, GLL’s Community Sport Manager for Ealing and Hillingdon said, “We’re really looking forward to seeing the North Ealing Primary School Project finished. Projects like this will have a long term impact on the local community and encourages people to be more active, and is ideal for the GLL Community Foundation to be engaged in. The project creators came to us with a fantastic idea and we’re looking forward to assisting with the fundraising to complete the development.”
