Council take action after resident ignores abatement notice
A noisy Southall resident who repeatedly ignored warnings has been fined and had sound equipment seized.
Abdul Turay, of Havelock Road, appeared at Ealing Magistrates Court on 21 August 2012 to plead guilty to two charges relating to excessive noise at his property.
Noise nuisance officers were called to Mr Turay’s property on a number of occasions, where they heard unreasonably loud music coming from his home.
Mr Turay ignored a number of verbal and written warnings, and was eventually issued with a noise abatement notice. Mr Turay went on to breach the notice on 23 December 2011 and 10 March 2012. Officers returned to the property again in March to seize 18 pieces of equipment, including speakers and stereos.
In court, Mr Turay was fined £190 for the first breach and £245 for the second. He was ordered to pay a further £2,088.76 in prosecution costs and two victim surcharges of £15 each, totalling £2553.76. Mr Turay was also ordered to forfeit the 18 items seized by the council.
Councillor Ranjit Dheer, cabinet member for community services and safety, said: “Noisy neighbours are a terrible nuisance for residents and we take complaints very seriously. This is another success for the team and I hope it makes residents think twice before making a racket that may disturb their neighbours.”
