Man Spared from Jail After Death of Police Motorcycle Officer in Perivale

Tributes paid to the 'conscientious' 'hardworking' and 'popular' policeman

A man who killed a police motorcyclist in a crash in Perivale in April this year has been given a suspended sentence by the courts.

PC Chris Dent (pictured) a motorcycle officer based at Alperton had finished work and was making his way home in Teignmouth Gardens, near the junction with Horsenden Lane South, in Perivale when his bike was hit by a VW Passat.

The car was driven by 26 year old Liron Shnaider of Finchley Road who ran from the scene leaving two of his passengers in his vehicle.

Enquiries quickly identified Shnaider as the driver and he was arrested and charged.

After a trial at Isleworth Crown Court, he was found not guilty on November 5 of death by dangerous driving. He had previously pleaded guilty to death by careless driving.

Judges at the same court sentenced Schnaider to 20 weeks imprisonment, suspended for two years and ordered him to carry out 100 hours community service.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years.

Chief Superintendent David Snelling, Traffic OCU Commander, said:

"The death of a colleague, no matter what the circumstances, is always a great sadness to everyone. But the death of Chris was felt particularly deeply by every one who ever had the pleasure of working with him in the police and previously in the armed services.

''Chris was a very conscientious, hard working and popular officer, who always had a smile on his face. He was in his dream role as a Traffic Officer."

"Our deepest sympathies are with Chris's family and friends, I hope they are able to remember the many good times they had with Chris and are coming to terms with their sad loss."

Christopher's widow Niki Dent said, '' Chris was a wonderful husband and a great father to Nathan, Kian and Ella. I know how much he enjoyed his job and how respected he was by colleagues and friends alike. His death has left us all completely devastated and heartbroken. Words cannot begin to express the loss and emptiness we feel. I only wish we could turn back the clock and he would be there with us still.''
