Hanwell Teacher Hoping to Make the O2

Local singer is in regional finals of major music competition

A talented teacher from Hanwell is wowing judges in the hope of getting through to the final of a major music competition to be held at the O2.

Magdalena Hegarty, 'Mags', has been playing and singing since she was 5 and later went on to co-found the acoustic monthly evening at the North Star pub in Ealing.

The 35-year-old, teaches science to 11 to 18 year olds in Twickenham, but, on March 11th, will be competing against the most talented bands and artists in the country.

The competition, Live and Unsigned, has attracted over 50,000 entries in the past five years and is now established as the definitive music competition for original acts and it’s open to all genres of music from Heavy Rock to Rap.

Chris Grayston, Events Director said: “Live and Unsigned is all about originality, live ability and credibility. We don’t accept demos or submissions and everyone auditions live.''

All the acts in the competition are battling it out for the chance to play at Live Fest at The 02 in London.

The Grand Final is incorporated into London’s biggest indoor festival in July. The winners will be crowned the UK’s best unsigned act.

Acts will be competing for the main prizes which include; £10,000 to be spent on development, a £10,000 publicity investment, gigs at festivals in Canada, Italy and Latvia, a UK tour of up to 100 shows and a UK festival tour.
