Council Candidates To Face Grilling

Accountability assembly to be held at local school

On Thursday 22nd April West London Citizens, a chapter of the capital’s largest alliance of faith congregations and civic institutions, will hold an Accountability Assembly at Cardinal Wiseman School, to demand action from leaders of the local Tories, Labour and Lib Dems on low pay, safety for young people, Ealing Hospital and road safety.

These priorities were agreed after a ‘listening campaign’ where more than 2,000 people from local schools, faith groups and community groups shared their ideas about what needed to be done to improve the borough.

The evening will include testimonies from local people about why they support these issues, and responses from Cllrs Jason Stacey for the Conservatives, Julian Bell for Labour, and Harvey Rose for the Lib Dems.

Reverend Michael Bolley, a West London Citizens leader from Holy Trinity Southall, said, “Four years ago, we persuaded the council to pay all its staff a Living Wage, and to support our ‘Bin the Rats’ campaign. Now, we are once again asking those who are seeking our votes to respond to our citizens’ agenda.

We want to see the council pay all the people that it employs directly and indirectly at least £7.60 per hour, to meet with us to improve road safety, to commit leadership to transform the lives of young people by reducing the incidence of attacks on young people in the borough, to ensure local people are informed about the future of Ealing Hospital, and to work with us to make Ealing a better place for everyone who lives here.”
