A by-election is to be held in Hanwell following the resignation of a sitting councillor.

Lewis Cox stood down as the Labour representative for Hobbayne ward after describing the Labour party as ‘an increasingly toxic brand’ on the borough.

He said in May that he had no confidence either in the former leader Julian Bell or the new head of the Labour group in the borough Peter Mason.

Former Cllr Cox was on the left of the party and a supporter of Momentum and Jeremy Corbyn. He has been critical of Keir Starmer since he became party leader.

Another by-election was held in May in Hobbayne ward following the death of a sitting councillor which resulting in a comfortable victory for Labour.

A new councillor will be selected on 16 September.

Those who are registered to vote will receive a polling card with information on how to vote in due course.

Those who have moved or are not yet registered can register at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
