New Park Swings Into Action

Green and friendly 'Playscape' designed by Groundwork London

An exciting new environmentally friendly play area aimed at 8-13 year olds has been opened in Islip Manor in Northolt.

The design for the play area was the result of consultation and workshops with local residents and children from Willow Tree primary school.

Children are now able to enjoy a climbing frame and stepping logs, a group swing and wobbly bridge, grass mounds and large boulders within an attractively planted setting.

This new site follows in the footsteps of a number of highly successful and award winning Playscape projects designed and delivered across the capital by Groundwork London’s Landscape Design service over the last two years.

The Deputy Mayor of Ealing, Cllr John Ross opened the play area and said:

“This is a wonderful new play area, a 'state-of-the-art' project which is surely one of the best and brings a much needed facility to this part of Islip Manor.

This is a truly great achievement and could only happen with the co-operation of all the stakeholders involved. Our sincere thanks goes to them all, especially Groundwork London, the Big Lottery Fund, Ealing Homes and not least the local community."

This is the third play area recently opened in Ealing that has been designed by Groundwork London, others are at King George Fields Playscape Hanwell and Leamington Park and Golf Links.

Moira Herring, Community Projects Officer for Groundwork London said:

“This wonderful playscape project will make a real difference to children and families in the area. The involvement of the local community in the design process is invaluable for generating a play area that suits local needs as well as creating a sense of ownership and respect for the site”

This new play area was made possible by funding from Ealing Homes and the Big Lottery Fund. Support for many of the activities was provided by the
team from Ealing Youth and Connexions, who encourage personal and social
development of young people aged 13-19.
