Pizza Company Forced to Eat Humble Pie

Hanwell firm fined for dumping rubbish

A pizza company will have to pay up more than £1,300 after piles of commercial rubbish from the shop was found in the street.

Karim Payman, of Thorncliffe Road, Southall, appeared before Ealing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 3 December, where he pleaded guilty to eight counts of failing in his duty of care to ensure waste from Hanwell Pizza was disposed of correctly.

It follows an investigation by the council’s Envirocrime officers who found pizza boxes, receipts, leftover food and other waste dumped just meters from the shop.

Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said:

“Business owners and managers must take responsibility for making sure they and their staff dispose of their rubbish correctly. I hope this will act as a warning to other companies that we will not tolerate traders who don’t make sure their waste is disposed of correctly.”

Mr Payman will now have to pay a £500 fine, plus the council’s costs of £818. He has now bought pre-paid commercial waste sacks from the council so he can now dispose of his business’ waste responsibly.
