Workers and Residents Recognised in the Queen's Honours
It's a very happy new year for five Ealing based people
A police officer and a civilian support worker for the Metropolitan Police Service - both based in Ealing are two of a number of locals recognised in the Queen's New Year Honours this year.
Carol Stone (pic above) who is the borough commander's assistant - has worked in the service for 27 years said she was 'gobsmacked' on hearing she was to be awarded the MBE.
PC Sue Tither has worked in Ealing for more than 20 years and won the Met's Community Officer of the Year award in 2010.
She was also awarded an MBE for her enthusiastic and dedicated work with the North Greenford safer neighbourhood team.
Other local recipients include Dr Patricia Ealey of Murray Road, W5 who got an an MBE for her work at the Holly Lodge Centre, an education centre within Richmond Park, and people with special needs. She has organised Easter and Christmas services for people with learning difficulties at St Mary's Church in Ealing for the past 12 years.
Al'adin Maherali from West Ealing was recognised for his services to business and the voluntary sector. He is chair of the Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector Organisations and director of the Ethnic Minority Foundation. He is a co-opted governor of University of West London and a non-executive director of NHS Ealing.
Filmmaker Remi Adefarasin, (pic above) also of West Ealing, who became an OBE for his work in TV and film. He won best cinematography for the 1998 blockbuster Elizabeth starring Cate Blanchett, which was also nominated for an Oscar.
