Gas Leak in West Ealing

Roads closed and  locals moved to safety

Around 50 residents were evacuated from their homes and surrounding buildings in West Ealing this afternoon after builders ruptured a gas mains pipe.

The incident happened on Drayton Green Road in W13 and nearby roads were closed and a 25m safety cordon put in place.

A temporary shelter was set up at St John's Primary School, in Felix Road.

Police, fire and ambulance were on standby as engineers from the National Grid dealt with the emergency.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The area was declared safe just after four thirty this afternoon.

Three flats in a property on Drayton Green Road are still without gas but National Grid say they will be returning to the scene tomorrow to make sure the supply is switched back on.
