Highlighting importance of local action in combatting climate change

Members of Ealing Friends of the Earth held a short demonstration outside Ealing Town Hall this Saturday 6 November.

This is the day on which rallies and demonstrations took place around the world to highlight COP26, the international climate talks.

Afterward, members of the group travelled into central London to join the mass march and rally, ending in Trafalgar Square.

Nic Ferriday, member of Ealing Friends of the Earth, said, “We stood outside Ealing Town Hall to highlight the vital role that councils and local communities have to play in addressing the threat of climate change. We hear fine words from our politicians and we see a few minor actions, but what is needed now is genuine commitment to make the wholesale changes necessary to bring CO2 emissions down to ‘net zero’. Only if we do this will we save Ealing, the UK and the world from catastrophic climate change.”

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.
