Traffic Restrictions in Southall

Eid ul Adha celebrations on Friday night

Congestion is expected around Southall on Friday (27th November) and traffic restrictions will be in operation to allow a major Muslim celebration to take place.

There will be resident only access and 'No Waiting' in and around The Broadway and visitors are being urged to take public transport to the area.

Chief Inspector Perry Gwillim responsible for the policing operation during the celebrations, explained:

''Police Officers will be on duty to ensure that those people who are celebrating can do so safely, whilst at the same time minimising the disruption caused to residents, businesses and transport systems.

''We aim to maintain the free flow of traffic. Planned traffic restrictions, in place from 5:30pm on 27th of November 2009, will not apply to emergency vehicles, public transport or residents within the restricted traffic zone.

''I would urge anyone who resides within the restricted traffic zone and plans to use their vehicle during these times to carry proof of address in their vehicles.

''I would encourage people who intend to meet up with family and friends to celebrate the EID UL ADHA in the Southall area to use public transport, which will help us minimise congestion in the area.

''I also advise businesses in the restricted area to inform staff of the traffic restrictions and if possible, limit deliveries during this time. If you are attending Southall during the celebrations, remember to secure your home by locking all windows and doors before going out, consider your personal safety and the security of valuable items such as mobile phones and jewellery whilst in the area.

'''Finally, on behalf of Ealing Borough Police I would like to wish everyone a very Happy EID UL ADHA”.
