A new short film examining the complexities of dating in contemporary London premiered recently at Everyman Cinema on King’s Road. Titled Dirty Dating Dilemmas, the film was created by West London-based duo Greta Azzopardi and Vavara Theodorou, both of whom attended school in Ealing and developed the concept in a local pub.
The film follows two young women, Eva and Ruby, as they navigate the highs and lows of dating in their twenties. The narrative includes a series of awkward encounters, double dates, and impulsive decisions, culminating in a trip to Corfu that tests their friendship. The story blends humour with emotional insight, aiming to reflect the experiences of a generation familiar with the unpredictability of modern relationships.
The premiere included an introduction from the creators and a post-screening Q&A session. Attendees responded positively, with several commenting on the relatability and comedic timing of the film. Greta Azzopardi noted, “It was such a successful night — people laughed, asked brilliant questions, and really connected with the film. Hearing comments like ‘I wasn’t ready for it to end’ was exactly what we were hoping for. That’s the dream!”
Vavara Theodorou, who co-wrote and directed the film, indicated that the project may expand into a longer series. “This is just the beginning. Greta and I are writing a brand-new 5–6 episode series in a similar vein, but we want to delve deeper and explore themes more fully. We plan to pitch it to Amazon, Netflix, the BBC… Watch this space,” she said.
The film features performances by Greta and Lucy Matok, with Theodorou leading the project behind the camera. The team aims to continue developing work that reflects the humour and challenges of young adulthood.
