Support for Health Conditions

New directory providing local information

Hundreds of Ealing residents come together to provide self-help support for people with long-term health conditions. Ealing Community Network (ECN) has now produced a new Directory of local and national health self-help organisations. The Directory gives local residents, patients, carers and their families’ easy access to information on health self-help groups.

Self-help groups support people when they are coping with a health condition. Often they provide the more informal support and information that people can’t get through their doctor but is crucial to their ability to cope. Click here to view a printable version of the Directory.

This Directory pulls together information on self-help into one place, from small local groups to large national helplines. This will be particularly helpful especially because some of the smaller groups are difficult to find on the internet. Until now, there has been no single database of local support groups.

Andy Roper, Chair of Ealing Community Network, said:
“I’m delighted to be launching this new Self-Help Directory which will be an invaluable resource to so many people across the borough. The Directory has contact details for over 130 organisations, covering a very wide range of health conditions.

Research has shown the effectiveness of self-help groups in enabling people to cope with, and recover from, a wide variety of health problems. The proven therapeutic benefits come from the increased social support, the sense of community and the sense of empowerment people feel in taking control of their own lives.”

The Directory was developed by Ealing Community Network with support from Ealing Council.
