Tory Councillor 'Should Be Expelled' From Party

Lib Dems say blog comments could also be a police matter

Ealing's Liberal Democrat Group Leader, has written to the Prime Minister urging him to expel a local Conservative Councillor, following allegations about comments made on his personal blog.

Hanger Hill Councillor, Benjamin Dennehy, has been temporarily suspended from the Conservative Group after claims that his blog - in which he spoke about Southall - was offensive and racist.

In his letter to David Cameron (word doc), Lib Dem Councillor, Gary Malcolm, says Councillor Dennehy has offended a large number of Ealing residents and concludes:

'' I ask that you, in your role of Leader of your party, take action to stop this behaviour from ever happening again as well as sending a signal to others that racism and causing offence is not acceptable in our country.''

Cllr Malcolm says:''The Liberal Democrat Group believes that Councillor Dennehy and the Conservative Leader should publically apologise at the next main Council meeting for the offence they have caused Southall and all Indian residents.

''Councillor Dennehy’s words smack of racism.

''I am taking legal advice about whether this should be also a Police matter.”
