Climbing High For Heart Charity

Help local teenager raise funds for free screenings

A teenager is setting out to climb the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales to help raise money for free heart screenings for young people in Ealing.

Helen Scott, 16, from Ealing, will attempt to walk 25 miles in 12 hours and climb a total of 5,200 feet over the Easter weekend in aid of the Tom Clabburn Memorial Fund run by Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

Helen, who describes herself as "possibly one of the laziest people you are ever likely to meet", will climb Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough, in memory of Tom, a close family friend and resident of Northfields.

He died in 2007 aged 14 from an undiagnosed cardiac condition and Helen has actively supported CRY ever since.

The charity has been prominent in recent days following the collapse of 23-year-old Bolton footballer Fabrice Muamba from a heart condition during a televised FA Cup tie against Spurs.

CRY estimate that 12 young people aged between 14-35 die each week from undiagnosed heart conditions.

Money raised will help to fund further free heart screenings in Ealing later this year.
