New official figures on the take up of Covid-19 vaccinations show relative low take up across Ealing borough.

The average for the Ealing, Hanwell, Southall, Greenford and Northolt areas combined is 64.1% of adults having had their first dose of the vaccine up to 6 July. This compares to a London average of 77.6% according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS)

For second doses the picture is similar with just 43.3% of residents fully vaccinated compared to 52.0% for the whole of London.

The rates across the borough are fairly uniform with no neighbourhood disproportionately accounting for the relatively low rate. The lowest take up for any district is in the area designated by the ONS as Hanger Hill East where just 55.9% of residents have had their first jab. Even the area with the highest take up, Pitshanger at 75.2% is below the London average.

Ealing’s infection rate for Covid-19 remains above the London average at 204 per 100,000 in the week to 2 July. Hanwell currently has a significantly higher number of cases than anywhere else in the borough with 29 new positive tests in the last week to give an infection rate of 401.6. Two thirds of people in the Hanwell area have received their first dose of the vaccine.

Local health experts believe there will be a close correlation between the spread of the Delta variant of the disease and the level of vaccination so further efforts are being made to encourage more people to get their jab particularly younger people.

For the whole of London 52.2% of 18-24 year olds have received their first dose with just 15.0% having had their second. This rises to 65.9% and 20.1% respectively for the 25-29 age group.
